Aspromonte National Park: two missing mushroom farmers found thanks to the SMS Locator

The Calabria Alpine and Speleological Rescue – CNSAS was alerted this afternoon – Saturday 5 October – by the Fire Brigade of the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria, regarding two missing mushroom pickers, aged 35 and 47 respectively (SI and CL are their initials ), in the area of ​​the Menta Dam, in the Aspromonte National Park.

The CNSAS Calabria, in order to obtain the position of the missing as soon as possibleused the SMS Locator technology, a geolocalization system used by the Alpine Rescue which allows the identification of the missing person with the sole response to a special message that arrives directly on the mobile phone of the person involved.

A team of technicians from the Aspromonte Alpine Station tracked them down in a wooded area between the municipality of Melito di Porto Salvo and the Menta Dam.

The two mushroom growers were returned to their car in good health.

The search operation involved a further mixed team made up of technicians from the Alpine Rescue and Fire Brigade. The Carabinieri of Roccaforte del Greco (RC) were also present.
