A significant meeting took place within the Messina Film Festival – Cinema & Opera which addressed the theme “Violence, from opera to news”. They spoke at the Sala Laudamo of the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele Maria Andaloro creator of Posto Occupied, Franca Olivo Fusco author of the book “Femicide in opera” e Leti Dafnerap performer and director of the video “Crows and Wolves”. Also present were the students of the Ainis and Maurolico schools and the class representatives of Basile and La Farina di Messina.
The writer Franca Olivo Fuscoin his speech, reviewed a series of episodes of feminicide, even in lesser-known works, highlighting how his book is the fruit of an important research work lasting over a year, with the treatment of 55 operas and the citation of 45 others for various reasons.
Maria Andaloro he then spoke to the students about the various forms of violence, underlining the importance of this meeting, with the presence of various generations who confront each other through a varied dialogue.
Leti Dafnea singer who combines opera and rap, explained how his idea was born, the power of this new language and how the work is modern and current. “Having mastered opera and also having a love for rap, I thought of fusing these two styles, putting the two things together and creating a middle ground that reaches younger people, but not only. Furthermore, one of the topics I deal with is violence against women and gender inequality”, declared Leti Dafne.
At the end of the event, Maria Andalororemembered the 5 women victims of femicide in Messina in the last 10 years and declared: “Together we must combat violence, intercepting the symptoms of when something is not right. We must engage together in this battle to combat gender violence.”
Meanwhile, anticipation is growing for the final day of the MFF scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 7 December. The awards ceremony for the “International Short Film Competition” is scheduled for 7pm in the Sala Laudamo: the Emi Mammoliti Award for the Best Short Film, a Special Jury Award and an award for the best interpretation will be awarded. The Jury is composed of the President Fabio Mollo(director), Anne-Riitta Ciccone (director) and by Leti Dafne (Opera and rap singer).
The event which will officially close the MFF at 9pm at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele will feature one of the icons of Italian cinema, Stefania Sandrelli who, in an evocative reading, will play Santuzza from Cavalleria Rusticana.
The show entitled “Dangerous Liaisons” by Debora Pioli combines the music of Pietro Mascagni in Marco Voleri’s mise-en-scéne. Together with Sandrelli, Rocco Roca Rey (pianist) and Daria Masiero (soprano) will be protagonists on stage.
