At the University of Messina “a kick to racism” returns: sport as a social inclusion engine

The Rectorate’s Magna’s classroom hosted the ninth edition of “A kick to racism – united with sport”, the historic initiative of the University of Messina dedicated to the fight against racism and the promotion of inclusion through sport. The event, conceived by prof. Carlo Giannetto and co-organized by the Cug and the SSD Unime, with the support of the Municipality, is part of the Includime project and has seen the participation of important figures of the sports and academic scene.

The central theme of this edition was “the educational and social value of sport”. The rector Giovanna Spatari underlined the importance of initiatives such as this to combat discrimination and strengthen the links between young people, school, universities and institutions. Removal appearances also remotely, such as the president of Coni Giovanni Malagò and the coach of the National Water Polo Sandro Campagnareiterated the commitment of the sports world in the spread of the values ​​of equality and respect.

The project will culminate on 20 and 21 May with a 5 -a -side football tournament in the university sports citadel, which will see in the field multi -ethnic teams made up of students, migrants and representatives of associations. Each team will bring a message against racism, making sport a concrete occasion of dialogue and social reflection.
