A sophisticated electrical bypass system hidden under the walls of the house and a second illegal connection located in the underground rooms, directly connected to the public network. An illegal architecture that is almost invisible to the untrained eye, but which was not missed by the police at the Belcastro station and the specialized technicians of the electricity distribution company.

The raid, launched a few days ago as part of an extraordinary territorial control plan prepared by the Provincial Command of Catanzaro, led to the denunciation of a 55-year-old woman in a state of freedom. She is accused of aggravated theft of electricity.

The “contraption” in the walls and the illegal second line

The military personnel were carrying out extensive checks on various users in the area to map and suppress the phenomenon of illegal connections. If in the vast majority of homes checked the meters were found to be in perfect order and consumption consistent, the inspection of the 55-year-old’s property raised strong suspicions, which were later confirmed by the technicians’ instruments.

Inside the apartment, an ingenious bypass was discovered: an illegal connection inserted directly into the brickwork and designed to divert power flows into the domestic system without the meter registering a single kilowatt hour. A precision job which, according to the investigators, had been going on undisturbed for a long time.

The surprises didn’t end there. Extending the search to the premises located under the house, the police identified a second illegal sampling point, this time directly and brutally connected to the public electricity grid, resetting all measurements.

Damage of over 12,000 euros and immediate detachment

According to detailed calculations carried out on site by the supplier company, the value of the electricity stolen “under the table” over time amounts to over 12,000 euros. Heavy economic damage which triggered immediate measures:

The criminal seizure of all cables and technical material used to tamper with the network.

The definitive suspension of the electricity supply both in the home and in the underground rooms.

The woman’s position is now being examined by the Catanzaro Public Prosecutor’s Office. Meanwhile, the provincial command has announced that targeted checks on anomalous consumption will continue unabated in all the municipalities of the province.
