Tragic end for a man from Santa Teresa who had lived in Trentino Alto Adige for many years. Santo Nicita, a 66-year-old retired teacher, passed away at the “San Maurizio” hospital in Bolzano following a road accident in which he was involved last Tuesday. The man lived with his family in Laives, a center of almost 19,000 inhabitants 7 km from Bolzano, and was taking his usual evening cycle ride when the collision with a bus occurred in the hamlet of Pianeta: his condition immediately appeared very serious and he was urgently transferred to the intensive care unit, but despite the doctors doing everything possible to save his life, he passed away after a few days.

Nicita had taught for many years at the “Galileo Galilei” high school in Bolzano and was well known in the world of school and also in the sports world, for having been a popular manager of the Pineta sports club, very active especially in alpine skiing and football.

The news arrived yesterday morning in Santa Teresa di Riva, where her elderly parents, brother and other relatives live: «He called me every evening when he went out for a bike ride – mother Giuseppa says with composed sorrow – that day he didn’t do it and I became suspicious. Then we heard about the accident, my son had been there for 40 years and everyone loved him. My house is unfortunate – he adds bitterly – two years ago another son of mine passed away, at the age of 61.”

Santo Nicita spent several months of the year, especially in summer, in his hometown, where he loved to travel by bicycle. The body will return to Santa Teresa di Riva in the next few days, where he had planned to arrive on October 21st to take care of some matters and be close to his family.
