“The awarding of the Blue Flag for the fourth consecutive year to the city of Catanzaro, and in particular to the Giovino beach, represents a source of great pride for the entire community and confirms the quality and continuity of the work carried out by the municipal administration, since the installation of the Fiorita council, on the front of environmental protection and sustainability”.
This was stated by the deputy mayor of Catanzaro with responsibility for maritime policies, Giusy Iemma, commenting on the new important recognition of the FEE awarded to the capital city during the ceremony held at the CNR in Rome. “Over the years – continues Iemma – we have worked with determination so that sustainability issues become common heritage, promoting greater collective awareness and responsibility with respect to issues that concretely impact the quality of life: from separate waste collection to accessibility and social inclusion, up to the tourist enhancement of the territory. The Blue Flag is not just a symbol, but the result of a shared path that involves institutions, citizens, associations, economic operators and schools”.
“The Giovino beach – underlines the deputy mayor – is an authentic natural jewel of our city: the long stretch of sand, the crystal clear sea, the pine forest and the equipped areas constitute a small ecosystem that we have the duty to protect and enhance more and more. Maintaining this prestigious recognition over time means continuing to invest in environmental quality, services and hospitality. A fundamental role was also played by local schools, involved in awareness-raising activities on the values promoted by the Fee. Educate the new generations to respect the environment means building more aware and responsible citizens, capable of concretely contributing to the protection of the ecosystem and the care of the common good. “For the fourth consecutive year – concludes Iemma – Catanzaro thus enters the network of cities and beaches that best represent a model of sustainable development and quality hospitality. A model in which the sea economy can generate social, economic and productive value, strengthening the identity and attractiveness of our territory”.
