Great participation and enthusiasm at the Spezzano Albanese Sports Hall where, on Sunday 17 May, the 2026 Regional Table Tennis Championships were played.
The event, organized by the FITeT Calabria Committee in collaboration with the host club and the Open Calabria group, saw the presence of numerous athletes from all over the region, protagonists of a day dedicated to sport and fair play.
Also present at the event was the regional president Pino Petralia, flanked by the deputy Giuseppe De Gaio and the councilors Paolo Cucci and Corrado Mastroianni. At the end of the finals, Petralia himself awarded the winners of the different categories.
The regional champions
Among the protagonists of the competition stand out Samuele Durante (Montalto Uffugo), winner in the fifth male category, and Maria Grazia Mastroianni (Conflenti) in the fifth female category. In the men’s sixth category the title went to Nicola Scuticchio (Piscopio).
In the fifth category men’s doubles, success went to Antonio Manfredi and Gianfranco Zincone (Nuova Luzzi), while in the sixth category men’s doubles Paolo Catania and Scuticchio (Piscopio) won. In the fifth category women’s doubles, victory went to Alice Scuro and Francesca Sposato (Spezzano Albanese), while in the fifth category mixed doubles Manfredi and Sara Basile (Nuova Luzzi – Acri) triumphed.
The organization
The direction of the competitions was entrusted to the regional FAR Giovanni Zampaglione, with the support of the referee Katia Petroni, who guaranteed the smooth running of the competition.
«The Regional Championships represent an important moment every year for the entire Calabrian table tennis movement – commented Pino Petralia – not only for the competitive aspect but also for the values of friendship, respect and sharing that this sport continues to transmit».
The day ended with the official awards ceremony and with great satisfaction on the part of the organizers, confirming the growth and enthusiasm of the Calabrian pong movement.
