Breakthrough in the investigation into suspicious deaths at the Papardo di Messina: new inspection and 5 more suspects

New access for experts from the Prosecutor’s Office to the Cardiac Surgery operating rooms of the Papardo hospital set for December 30th, to carry out blood samples and samples. Five others under investigation on suspicion of manslaughter.

These are the latest developments in the investigation into suspicious deaths in the hospital, which in recent weeks led to the sensational seizure of the operating rooms by the Nas police.

In the aftermath of the kidnapping, Catena Di Blasi, general director of Papardo, Paolo Cardia, medical director, Vincenzo Manzi, administrative director, Francesco Patanè, head of Cardiac Surgery, Maria Chiara Zucchetti, director of Intensive Care, Silvio Tommasini, head of Intensive Care were under investigation post-operative.

To these we must now add as new suspects the names of Mario Paino, Salvatore Munafò, Ranieri Giuseppe Trimarchi, Alberto Firenze and Giancarlo Niutta. These are former managers of the hospital structure, who have held various positions at the top administrative levels of the Papardo in recent years.

The picture that emerged in the first phase of the investigation spoke of contaminated water, taps without filters and non-sterile instruments in the operating rooms of Papardo Cardiac Surgery.

The decision to seize the rooms by the investigating judge at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office came after complaints from the relatives of Luca Catanzaro, Dora Biondo, Maria Eugenia Lombardo, Carmela Sampietro, Giuseppe Lo Giudice, Calogera Caruso, Vincenzo Ragusa and Gaetano Bombaciall of whom died after coronary bypass surgery or heart valve installation.
