Calabria and the Silk Road: in Cosenza an exhibition of books, cards and artifacts

There Calabria and the street of the silk-bridge of books, cards and artifacts- from 28 February to 24 April at the National Library of Cosenza.
The National Library of Cosenza intended to join the celebrations for the eighteenth -century anniversary of the death of Marco Polo, through the setting up of an exhibition itinerary that traces the history of Calabria and the centrality taken by the Region in the context of the exchanges that marked European culture , starting from the years in which the Venetian explorer reached the boundaries of the world. The initiative constitutes the result of an in -depth and comparison activity started in 2024 and aims to enhance the traditional art of mulberry and that of serica art, as a material and immaterial heritage of the regional territory.
Retracing the past through the documentary testimonies owned by the Institute and Partner Bodies, we intend to share with the community the production and entrepreneurial prospects of a territory whose biodiversity and strategic position in the Mediterranean have historically represented development levers.
The program of activities includes an inauguration day, together with a bibliographic exhibition and educational workshops for school groups. During the inauguration day of February 28, 2025 (9:00 am), researchers, scholars and profound connoisseurs of the history of the territory, its productions and manufactures of yesterday, together with researchers from today’s technologies and production systems will be confronted.
The exhibition itinerary will allow you to take advantage of rare and valuable library materials of the National Library of Cosenza (ancient and modern editions), as well as a selection of archival goods and historical artistic goods, made available thanks to the use of new technologies, which will enrich the Documentation and narration of these aspects of regional history. The route was created in collaboration with the Physics Department of the University of Calabria, the Brettii Museum and the Sea of ​​Cetraro, the Dynamic Museum of Silk of Mendicino and the Unesco Club Cosenza.
