The project involves 18 Calabrian municipalities that won the “Call for the implementation of cultural activities in favor of Italian descendants in the world to be implemented on the occasion of the MAECI’s “2024 – Year of Italian Roots”. To the initiative promoted by the Honorable Porta and Carè , speakers will be Gianluca Gallo – Councilor for Agricultural Policies and Agri-Food Development and Social and Family Policies of the Calabria Region; Giuseppe Sommario – researcher at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore Milan and director of the Festival delle Spartenze; the sociologist Giuseppe Petrucci; Claudia Carbone – Lawyer in New York; Rosaria Anele – Representative of the Calabrian community in Porto Alegre; Parliamentarians of the Italian Republic; Representatives of the Italian communities abroad and the Mayors of the 18 municipalities involved in the ‘New Roots’.

The project “Nuovi Radicamenti. Tra Identità Individuale e Patrimonio Comune” aims to tell the story of the old and new emigration that has affected the 18 Calabrian municipalities that have joined together to network, to allow travelers to reconnect with their origins and, at the same time, enhance the unique natural and cultural heritage of the whole of Calabria. Nuovi Radicamenti aims to offer tools that allow travelers of the roots to fully return to their place of origin, to fully reconnect with a history, broken following the many departures.
The establishment of an aggregate form favors the competitive repositioning of attractive destinations, through the integrated valorization of resources of territorial competence. Sea, mountain and hill outline different scenarios, places that are not simply “typical” destinations, but living witnesses of the stories and traditions shaped by many generations. The goal is to create a journey, in which every step reveals legends, stories, traditions, ancient migrant routes.

The municipalities aggregated by resolution of the council are: Badolato, Isca, Sant’Andrea Apostolo dello Ionio (Province of Catanzaro); Aieta, Morano, Paludi (Province of Cosenza); Brognaturo, Cardinale, Mongiana, Monterosso Calabro, Fabrizia, Nardodipace, Polia, San Nicola da Crissa, Spadola, Simbario, Vallelonga, Zaccanopoli (Province of Vibo Valentia)
