«The Calabria Region Report essentially presents the same critical moments that we already highlighted last year». This was stated by the regional prosecutor of the Court of Auditors, Romeo Ermenegildo Palma, on the occasion of the evaluation of the 2024 financial statements of the Calabria Region.
«There is a healthcare system – added Palma – that is certainly moving towards paths of improvement, but slowly, very slowly. And this obviously creates effects that are evident on the budget: for example, passive mobility amounting to 308 million euros for 2024, with a +21% compared to the previous year. Then – continued the prosecutor of the Court of Auditors – there is a health commissioner for infrastructure which has certainly created an acceleration, but we are still at absolutely unsatisfactory levels for the responses that the population requires in terms of health”.
According to Palma «even in other sectors spending moves slowly, there is spending on European funds which always presents the same moments of crisis compared to what we have said in other years. Projects that turn out not to be detailed and therefore require further moments of intervention in order to make corrections”. Another critical aspect highlighted by Palma is that of the sub-government of the Region, «bodies and companies which – the prosecutor of the Court of Auditors noted – cost 500 million euros and which, from the evidence we have, create moments of friction, with the Region no longer having or in any case not having full governance of these bodies. Requests for information are made, which are provided in technical times that are not compatible with budget management.” However, for Palma the overall budget balance of the Region is good: «There are – concluded the accounting attorney – small measures that we will ask to be made, but they do not cause problems. The Region’s accounts do not cause problems.”
