A tragedy shocked the community of Taurianova on the morning of Saturday 19 October. Two spouses originally from the center of Reggio Calabria, Giovanni Speranza and Francesca Pizzi (from Reggio Calabria), lost their lives in a terrible road accident that occurred along the A21 motorway, in the stretch between Piacenza Ovest and Piacenza Sud. According to an initial reconstruction, their car would have collided with a truck stopped in a lay-by, catching fire immediately after the collision. There was nothing that the couple could do. The causes of the accident are still being investigated by the competent authorities.
Giovanni Speranza, archaeologist and writer, was known for his passion for historical research and cultural dissemination. His wife Francesca Pizzi, who had long been involved in the fight against cancer, had transformed her experience of pain into a testimony of strength and hope, shared with many through her words and example. Two souls linked by a deep love, curiosity for life and the desire to discover and understand. Their passing has caused deep condolences in Taurianova and Reggio Calabria, where relatives and friends remember them as authentic, competent and generous people. United in life and destiny, Giovanni and Francesca leave an unfillable void but also a lesson in courage, passion and humanity, which will continue to live in the memory of those who knew and loved them.
