The week that opens could already see the appointment of the new regional council by President Roberto Occhiuto. In fact, if it is true that this afternoon (at 3pm) there will be his proclamation in the Court of Appeal in Catanzaro – and therefore the 10 days to compose the executive will run – it is also true that the governor was not idle after the vote on 5 and 6 October. He somehow got “ahead of the job”. After the victory over Pasquale Tridico (and Francesco Toscano) Occhiuto held a series of meetings with the national leaders of the centre-right, maintaining contact with the regional parties: in Rome the framework of the Council was defined, in Calabria the names will be identified. However, they must respect the parameters indicated by the president: competence and experience. Therefore, his choices could arrive within a few days.

There are a couple of possible directions, linked to the vice-presidency of the Council and also to the presidency of the Regional Council. If, in fact, Filippo Mancuso (Lega) is confirmed as leader of the assembly (as it seems), the vice-presidency of the executive will fall to Fratelli d’Italia. The Melonians are focusing on Giovanni Calabrese, who in the last few hours has addressed some controversies regarding the (legitimate) regional liquidations of the company that deals with job training led by the brother of the former Labor councilor; more food for thought for Occhiuto but Calabrese has already dismissed the matter. The other possibility is that the meeting is entrusted to Forza Italia, “on the” Reggio side: in this case the balance would be found with the assignment of the vice-presidency of the Council to the League and “heavy” delegations to Fratelli d’Italia.
Among the confirmations include the names of Gianluca Gallo (FI) and, therefore, Calabrese (FdI); but Marcello Minenna could also still be in the game, except for a top position in the Budget department; the Azzurri would also like the confirmation of Stefania Caracciolo. For the League, Giuseppe Mattiani could stand out Infrastructure (so as to form the Northern League “supply chain” with Salvini in government). In the blue galaxy, the possible roles of Pasqualina Straface (FI), Rosaria Succurro (Occhiuto President) and Emanuele Ionà (Occhiuto Presaidente) need to be understood. For FdI, the other name in the running is that of Antonio Montuoro, who in the last legislature chaired the Budget commission and was secretary of the commission against the ‘Ndrangheta.
The final numbers
With the proclamations that will start this morning, the framework of the votes will also be defined, at the center of some in-depth analysis in the last few days. In addition to that of Occhiuto at 3pm in Catanzaro, this morning it will be the Court of Reggio Calabria that will proclaim the councilors of the southern constituency, between tomorrow and the day after tomorrow it will be the turn of the other two constituencies in their respective courts (Catanzaro and Cosenza). From the recalculations it cannot be excluded that there may be slight variations in the final data, which could affect in particular those results obtained on the wool thread (not many). But with the definitive data, the possibility will also open up for candidates who have an interest in trying, to present appeals and thus try to get back out of the “window”.
