The business world is trying to regroup within a scenario that illustrates an increasingly dynamic South. The data just released by Movimprese reconstruct a second quarter of good intentions and confirm the growth trend already appreciated last year. The Calabrian business system unfolds through an entrepreneurial network made up of 186,409 (against 188,719 in the same period last year) businesses registered in the Chamber of Commerce. The active ones are 159,669 (161,063), but there is no shortage of difficulties. Bewilderment, disappointment, frustration, broken promises, define the exit path from the market of 1,394 active companies that have thrown in the towel. In the relationship between alpha and omega, the second quarter of 2024 reveals 2,286 new registered businesses with 1,455 signs permanently closed with an average of 16 per day. Of course, the hemorrhage of closures is slowing down compared to the figure of twelve months ago (1,532). But the diagrams are also slowing down among the new companies that are appearing on the market because, between March and June of last year, 2,372 new companies had blossomed throughout Calabria. In the same period of 2024, the number of newly founded companies stopped at 2,286.
The wealth of entrepreneurship is that which flows mainly from the tertiary sector, with trade representing 32.25% of the entire stock (a good 55,539 companies). But accommodation and catering services also express growing vitality (14,348 companies, equal to 8.33%). Construction (but the sector is inevitably affected by the cut in superbonuses) is marking time but still represents 12.87% of companies equal to 22,160 companies. Agriculture is always strong, with 31,724 brands in Calabria, equal to 18.42% of the entire sector. The contribution of craftsmanship is noteworthy, bringing together 32,216 businesses in various sectors.
The world of craftsmanship has been experiencing a slow process of entrepreneurial decomposition for forty years that has been draining resources for forty years. Overall, between 2012 and 2023, Calabria has lost 7,035 artisans (from 40,310 to 33,275).
