«From the little information learned in the press regarding the opinion given by the Via commission on the Bridge project, a favorable opinion with prescription, we can only highlight what has been said in all these months: our territory is so fragile and so impacted by the bridge work that it requires specific, detailed and in-depth studiesthe presentation of analytical projects on the resolution of interference, the construction site project of the work, in order to delve into the merits of the issues posed for the protection of the territory”.
This was stated by the mayor of Villa San Giovanni Giusy Caminiti. «With great attention – he continues – we will read each of the 60 prescriptions posed by the commission, but already what is given to us by the press highlights the validity of what we have always supported: the project that will be delivered following the outcome of the requested prescriptions will be something different compared to the definitive project subject to environmental impact assessment. For this reason, the council resolution of 23 October which asked for the suspension of the preliminary conference before the MIT pending the prescriptions of the Via commission, the suspension of the declaration of public utility by the Cipess for the failure to accurately identify the areas becomes even more valid to be expropriated. We read from the press notes that the commission addressed not only the environmental and naturalistic aspects, but also those relating to ground works, construction sites, environmental monitoring: these are all the findings that this territorial body placed in the initial observations and in the observations made to the counterarguments of the proponent Strait of Messina”. «The protection of the territory – concludes Giusy Caminiti – passes through the cities that will “host” the bridge works and, given that the law does not provide for a preliminary public debate, it is in the service conferences that this body will assert the reasons of the city» .
