Reggio Calabria is preparing to host the party for the 212th anniversary of the foundation of the Carabinieri. A national-level event scheduled for Friday 5 June, which will turn the spotlight on the city also due to the arrival of the President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni. The choice to host the event on the Falcomatà seafront is suggestive, for an anniversary that will have further significance due to the concomitance with the eightieth anniversary of the Italian Republic celebrated only a few days earlier.

Carabinieri Festival: appointment at the Arena dello Stretto

Some inconvenience for citizens is inevitable, considering that the installation of the necessary structures in the area of the Arena dello Strait “Ciccio Franco” has already generated a series of consequences for traffic and parking for a few days. Nothing dramatic for people from Reggio who understand the need to grit their teeth for a few days in the name of an appointment that will give visibility to Reggio Calabria. This could perhaps have been achieved better on an organizational level, considering that the upper area of Via Marina continues to be affected by construction sites linked to the renovation of flowerbeds and pavements which, beyond the aspects linked to the image, is linked to the closure of the crossroads which allow one to move from the lower part of the seafront towards the upper part of the city.

The Municipality’s ordinances: traffic restrictions and many parking bans

The Municipality’s ordinances have also arrived for commercial businesses located in the Arena dello Stretto area. At the request of the Provincial Carabinieri Command, the temporary removal of all obstructions in the areas affected by the event was ordered. Everyone will have to stop serving outside with tables and chairs. For the entire duration of the event, any occupation of public land with gazebos, platforms, tables, chairs, flower boxes and other furnishings will also be prohibited.

The ordinance also prohibits the broadcasting of live music or via audio systems and requires the managers of the venues to place inside all the furnishings normally placed outside. The objective of the provision is to ensure free pedestrian paths and adequate safety conditions during the military ceremony which will see the participation of representative units of the Army from all over the national territory. Other ordinances concern the Lungomare area with reference to the limitation of traffic. Numerous parking bans with forced removal will come into force as early as June 4th in the areas affected by the demonstration. From midnight to 3pm on the 5th, traffic will be prohibited on a large part of the lower part of the seafront, with two-way traffic established on Corso Matteotti (via Marina Alta).
