The mayor doesn’t take a step back. And it makes the new hospital a question of principle and opportunity. No parochial claims upstream and nothing merely political in the background. The profile chosen by Franz Caruso is purely institutional and seems to overcome – at least apparently – the usual barricade that divides the centre-left from the centre-right. The reasoning is all based on the essential role that the capital city must play in the near future.
«I won’t give anyone any discounts» he states «the Hub hospital must remain in Cosenza, while the University Hospital must be built in Rende, which must mainly carry out research and diagnostic in-depth functions to support the healthcare activities of the second level Hub Hospital. The capital, in fact, cannot be deprived of such an important garrison. It is possible – and necessary – to create structures that respond to both the needs of the university and those of the city.” This, in summary, is Caruso’s thought which is however articulated according to precise canons.
