More than 12 years after the start of the investigations, the Catanzaropoli and Multopoli files, which had shaken the buildings of Catanzaro politics, are closing with excellent acquittals. The judges of second instance, president Giancarlo Bianchi, alongside Ippolita Luzzo and Carmela Tedesco, confirmed the acquittal of the former personnel councilor Massimo Lomonaco (co-defended by the lawyers Salvatore Staiano, Francesco Iacopino and Antonio Lomonaco). With the formula the fact does not exist, the judges acquitted the former regional councilor Domenico Tallini (defended by the lawyer Enzo Ioppoli) who in the first instance had been sentenced to 1 year and six months in prison. The former commander of the traffic police Giuseppe Antonio Salerno (defended by the lawyer Carlo Petitto) was acquitted because the fact did not constitute a crime. He was sentenced at first instance to 8 months’ imprisonment with a conditional suspension of the sentence. The Court of Appeal reduced the sentence to 8 months of imprisonment for the municipal colonel Salvatore Tarantino, acquitting him on two counts because the fact does not exist, while a third accusation was declared time-barred (in the first instance he was given three years). The one-year sentence, with conditional suspension of the sentence, pronounced by the Collegiate Court in 2022 for the Marshal of the Army Antimo Paternuostro has been confirmed.
