The last and only, so far, official pronouncement of the Catanzaro City Council on the topic of the location of the new hospital in the regional capital dates back, as is known, to 2016. In that year, while the mayor at the time (Sergio Abramo) tried to mediate between the conservative position of the Red Chamber and the progressive push of the ad acta Commissioner for the Health Recovery Plan Massimo Scura, the Council led by Ivan Cardamone determined that the development of the hospital continued to be built in the area between the “Pugliese” and the “Ciaccio”. The Council’s decision was also and above all influenced by the media battle waged by the lawyer – who would later become a regional councilor for the dem – Francesco Pitaro. It was he who set up the “Save the Pugliese” committee and collected, according to statements at the time, 15 thousand signatures asking not to transfer the entire hospital system to the Germaneto area.
