The opera returns to the Politeama Theater in Catanzaro and will also be the beginning of a new collaboration with an important emerging reality in the South in the opera field. Next November 25th will be the date to mark on the calendar with staging of “Cavalleria Rusticana / Pagliacci”, the two masterpieces of Verismo for an evocative and exciting tribute to tradition. A co-production by the Politeama Foundation and Sicilia Classica Festival, artistic organization that in just a few years has managed to carve out an important space for itself in the sector, offering quality seasons in evocative places such as the ancient theater of Taormina.
A challenge that will then be repeated on January 4th with the revival of “La Traviata”, one of the most significant works of Verdi’s genius. In between, the Politeama Foundation strongly wanted to dedicate a space also to lovers of dance and ballet with two evenings – on 18 November “Baroque Suite”, signed by the Brutia Symphonic Orchestra and Ramificazioni festival, and on 22 December “Carmen” curated of the Balletto di Milano company – which, together with those of the opera, will form a small program of quality and artistic importance.
“Despite the well-known financial constraints and the sacrifices with which we are forced to operate – comments the President of the Foundation, Nicola Fiorita – the Politeama, strong in its history and its identity, wanted to start this new collaboration with the aim of relaunching the appointment with opera, a year and a half after the previous performance, and at the same time continuing in the direction of increasingly open the theater and the territory to new experiences and synergies”.
“The theater machine does not stop – adds the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Catanzaro, Donatella Monteverdi – and is ready to experience this new co-production with great enthusiasm and expectations. Not only that, from now until Christmas, the Politeama will offer a total of twenty evenings of shows and concerts for everyone, thanks also to the festivals and promoters who continue to focus on our theater and Catanzaro as points of reference throughout the region and beyond ”.
A planning shared with the superintendent Gianvito Casadonte and the general manager Aldo Costa which highlight “the great efforts made to safeguard and enhance the Politeama through strategic choices capable of giving broad scope to the most important cultural container of the capital, with the aim of attracting possible investments and creating new segments of the public”.
