The Carabinieri protect cultural heritage have given the director of the municipal library “F. De Nobili”, Michele Marullothe ancient volume “Le Mura di Roma” by Cesare Quarenghi, published in the capital in 1880 by Ermanno Loescher.
The work, according to the still visible stamp, originally belonged to the “military library of Catanzaro”. In recent times he was illegally detained and then seized in the context of a criminal proceeding of the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere. It was the latter that ordered the release and delivery to the director of the city library.
“The walls of Rome” is not the work of an archaeologist but, as the publishers write, “of an intelligent amateur of homelands”. In short, we are faced with the work of a sincere enthusiast, who thanks to a careful and documented research was able to bring out what we would call a small tourist guide today but so well done as to meet, at the time, the favor of a prestigious publishing house.
“We are grateful to the nucleus of Naples of the Carabinieri Command Protection Cultural Heritage which, in collaboration with the core of Cosenza, has returned us a precious object that from today returns to our library heritage”. With these words the councilor for culture, Donatella Monteverdicommented on the formal delivery of the volume, which also took place in the presence of Daniela Palaiacouncilor delegated to the enhancement of the historic center and the chief of cabinet of the mayor, Salvatore Bullotta. “The carabinieri who deal with the protection of cultural heritage – added Monteverdi – carry out an essential work; they are our allies in ensuring citizens the possibility of benefiting from fundamental assets for the growth of the community. Part of which, unfortunately, is illegally subtracted from its function and hence the importance of the common action of the institutions”.
