Antonio Reggio, the 87-year-old retired professor from Nicotera but resident in Vibo Valentia, who was stabbed by his Ukrainian caregiver on August 19, has died in hospital in Catanzaro. The elderly man was found in serious condition by the police covered in blood inside his home in Vibo Valentia. The caregiver, a Ukrainian citizen arrested in the hours following the elderly man’s arrival in hospital, is now being charged with the crime of murder. According to what was reconstructed by the investigators, the caregiver would have set up a sort of rudimentary operating room in the bedroom of the elderly man, a former professor of Philosophy and History at the Liceo Classico of Vibo Valentia. Here, according to the investigators, he administered sedative substances and, after putting him to sleep, he made a laceration in the abdominal area using a kitchen knife.
