“The city, like every year, has prepared in the best possible way to commemorate its deceased, remember its loved ones, making our cemeteries even more dignified, places where every family member comes to lay a flower, say a prayer, offer greetings to a loved one, a relative”. As the metropolitan mayor of Reggio Calabria, Giuseppe Falcomatà, present today at the monumental cemetery of Reggio Calabria, at the religious function of the commemoration of the deceased, celebrated by the archbishop of Reggio Calabria-Bova, Fortunato Morrone.

The mayor echoed the words pronounced by the prelate during the homily during the Condera celebration: “The words of our Bishop, Monsignor Fortunato Morrone, were very touching who, among the many beautiful things he said, reminded us that cemeteries don’t just remind us of the fact that none of us are eternal, they remind us above all that none of us is self-sufficient, no one is self-sufficient and that everything good we can and will be able to do in life, we could do only together with others, in solidarity with others, helping our neighbor”.

“I believe that – he added – it is a warning that will echo strongly from today, in some way it will be a guideline, a lighthouse to follow for everything that we should continue to do, both in our work and professional activities, which – he added – concluded Falcomatà – in our activities as good and good active citizens”.

Together with the mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà, there were also the deputy mayor of Reggio Calabria, Paolo Brunetti, the councilor Carmelo Romeo, the councilor Filippo Quartuccio and the municipal councilor of Reggio Calabria, Francesco Barreca, delegate for cemetery services who stated: “This is a sacred day also for the municipal administration. In these moments, and not only, we bring the memory and respect for our deceased, family members, friends who are no longer with us, perhaps in the exercise of their work functions, defending the homeland. These places must be given due consideration. We have done a good job in all the municipal cemeteries. There are still some critical issues, but we will be able to overcome them if we all think together on how to overcome them, to guarantee an increasingly better service every day, and not just during this day”.

After the religious service, moments of religious recollection were held for those who fell in the wars, for the victims of the 1908 earthquake, for the traffic police and for the victims of the firefighters who disappeared while carrying out their functions.
