Anticipation is growing in Cessaniti for the fourth edition of the “Cultural Evening dedicated to the figure and legacy of the Basilians”, an event that has now become a point of reference for the valorization of the spirituality, culture and Byzantine traditions of the area.
The event, scheduled for 8 June at 2.30pm in the churchyard of the Church of San Basilio Magno, will bring the theme “Suspended Light – Byzantine patterns and luminous geometries between devotions and traditions” to the center of the debate, a cultural journey that will combine history, sacred art, religious identity and popular heritage.
Promoted by Don Francesco Pontoriero together with the San Basilio Magno Festival Committee, the event aims to rediscover the value of the Basilian legacy, symbol of a Calabria deeply linked to the Greek-Byzantine tradition and the dialogue between East and West.
The evening will be moderated by journalist Francesco Iannello, while numerous guests will offer contributions and reflections of great cultural and spiritual depth. Among the expected speeches are those of the Protopresbyter Vincenzo Lorizio of the Sacred Orthodox Archdiocese of Italy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, the writer Nicola Rombolà, the art historian Franco Luzza, the director of the Regional Museum of Luminarie Calabria Vincenzo Calzona, the president of the regional Luminaristi association Francesco Pugliese and the Roots Tourism expert Agata Mazzitelli.
The evening will also represent a moment of meeting and sharing for the community, with the delivery of awards and the traditional final toast accompanied by the cutting of the “Vaiutopita”, the famous dessert of the Greek-Byzantine tradition, symbol of blessing and brotherhood.
Through words, testimonies and references to the historical memory of the territory, the initiative aims to keep alive the light of the Basilian tradition, an identity heritage that continues to tell the spiritual and cultural history of Calabria today.
