Mayor Ermanno Cennamo yesterday withdrew his resignation, presented on 4 October. This follows the request – signed by eight city councilors, including three from Forza Italia, forwarded, again yesterday, to president Angelo Aita – to convene a new city council in which to approve the hypothesis of a permanently rebalanced budget and save the council.
«Eight city councilors (the deputy mayor Barbara Falbo, Carmen Martilotta, Franco Lanza, Cristina Forestiero, Tommaso Cesareo, Gabriella Luciani and Giovanna Esposito: ndc)) have formally requested the convening of the city council – explained mayor Cennamo in a note – a act of great responsibility towards our country, which today takes on an even deeper meaning, because it is evident that our community has a need for unity, concreteness and a policy oriented only to the common good, demonstrating that there are still administrators who they have the courage to put aside their personal interests to look to the future of the country.”
Returning then to the requests received in recent days from the provincial secretary of Forza Italia, Gianluca Gallo, to the local party club, to ensure, in this delicate phase, its support for his council, the mayor of Cetrara underlined how «the appeal courageous of Forza Italia at provincial, regional and national level, then also shared at local level” represents “a positive signal that goes in the right direction”. Also recalling that his resignation as mayor «came precisely because, at that moment, politics had not allowed the reasons of collective responsibility to prevail» and that «this clearly demonstrates that no one is attached to the seat. Being mayor in a period like this requires constant commitment, sacrifices and the ability to make difficult decisions in the exclusive interest of the community.”
Therefore, in light of the request to convene the City Council, Mayor Cennamo will report «to the Prefecture of Cosenza the decision to withdraw his resignation, to continue the recovery and turnaround project that has begun».
Meanwhile, the former regional and municipal councilor Vincenzo Cesareo, former health director of the territorial spoke, presented a complaint on Monday at the local Carabinieri station regarding the failure to dissolve the municipal council. Considering that the same assembly did not respect the deadline established by the Court of Auditors for the presentation of the aforementioned hypothesis of a permanently rebalanced budget. Vincenzo Cesareo, in particular, addressing the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Cosenza, the Court of Auditors itself and, for information, the Minister of the Interior, highlights «that the rule, with mandatory prescription and with literal interpretation, leaves no minimum doubt on the peremptoriness of the deadline and on the dissolving effects in the case of non-compliance” also asking “to evaluate whether there are non-compliances, omissions, abuse of power, inertia and so on, given that the required legal provisions have not been adopted for about a month , leaving the Municipality of Cetraro even more at the mercy of itself, causing irreparable damage at every level.”
