The work of reviewing the blank and invalid ballots in the single-member constituency of Cosenza in the Chamber of Deputies that had seen Anna Laura Orrico (M5s) prevail by about 500 votes over the centre-right candidate Andrea Gentile (FI). The outcome saw Gentile recover over 700 votes and therefore, once the formal steps have been completed, in the coming weeks, the majority will increase its presence in the hemicycle of Montecitorio to the detriment of the 5 stars. However, it will not be Orrico who had also been elected in the proportional system who will lose her seat, but the deputy Elisa Scutella who had taken Orrico’s place in the proportional system.

The clarification from Gentile’s lawyers

“With regard to the news released by ANSA, it should be noted that Andrea Gentile has not been elected to the Chamber of Deputies. In fact, the preliminary phase of the review of the ballots by the Elections Committee Commission has ended and the result, from the first sections counted, seems decidedly favorable to Gentile to the detriment of Orrico of the M5S. Now it is necessary for the Committee, in its plenum, to deliberate on the election proposal on the basis of the verification and then the Chamber of Deputies will have to definitively approve the proposal and any replacement. This does not exempt us from expressing confidence in the final outcome because since the filing of the appeal we have believed in the validity of the reasons for censure and in the erroneous attribution of votes that penalized the candidate Gentile of the coalition of multiple lists”. Thus in a note the lawyers Oreste Morcavallo and Gisella Leto, defenders of Andrea Gentile.
