There is no Christmas without its marketsset up this year, particularly in advance, in Piazza Bilotti. The mayor visited the Christmas markets last night Franz Caruso who, accompanied by the Councilors Massimiliano Battaglia, who is responsible for economic and productive activities, and Damiano Covelli, but also by the municipal councilor Francesco Turcowanted to take a tour of the wooden houses that sell traditional decorations and which have given the square that hosts them that atmosphere and magic typical of the most awaited festival of the year. Franz Caruso did not hide his satisfaction at having found the square full of people. “Not only tonight – said the mayor – but since the installations were completed, citizens come here to experience the square and the ice skating rink and to purchase everything needed to prepare our homes for Christmas . Truly a confirmation of the success of this initiative which represents an ancient tradition for our city.” The Christmas markets, in fact, have always been popular with citizens and represent a particular form of attraction also for visitors from the surrounding areas, also offering a further opportunity for social aggregation and commercial development. What increases its attractiveness, as underlined by Mayor Franz Caruso, is precisely the skating rink. Franz Caruso wanted to witness up close the evolutions of many young people who put on skates and crowded the rink in a continuous cycle. Among the skaters, also the newly elected President of the Municipal Youth Council, Salvatore Giordano, who did not miss the opportunity to get a photograph from the Mayor at the sides of the skating rink. The mayor then chatted for a long time with the traders at the markets who, to meet the needs of the students, provided them with special discounts for the purchase of tree decorations and for setting up the nativity scene. Franz Caruso also extended particular thanks to those who worked, from within the Administration, but also from outside, to ensure that the commitment to set up the markets was respected. This year the municipal administration moved ahead not only with the opening of the markets, but also with the setting up of the lights. “We must complete – added the mayor in this regard – the setting up of the lights as this year we will illuminate and make 12 squares in our city festive. A city that is already dressed up, but will be even more so in the coming days.”
Along the route that leads to the markets in Piazza Bilotti, a food area has been set up in the stretch of Corso Mazzini commonly known as Salita Pagliaro for the sale and tasting of typical Christmas products. Animation and entertainment activities are also planned which have been given the title “Christmas in Progress” with a series of events and 12 artistic-musical performances which will continue until December 29th.
