Ct Vela Messina is among the best four teams in Italy.
President Antonio Barbera’s boys won yesterday with a score of 5-1 the expected clash at the top of the Serie A1 tennis championship (group 2) against Selva Alta Vigevano, who arrived on the shores of the Strait with a restructured lineup.
All quite easy for captain Francesco Caputo’s team, which thus secured first place in the group with one round to spare, qualifying for the coveted championship semi-finals. A prestigious result for the Peloritano club, which now dreams of reaching the final, scheduled in Turin on 9 and 10 December.
There is already the name of another promoted player, this is the Palermo coach, who obtained the precious “pass”, however, in group 3. Two Sicilians, therefore, in the running for the 2023 Tricolore.
There is very little to say about the match against the Lombards. Coach Vela brought back the victorious players in Pistoia’s recovery and the singles matches all ended in two sets for the home favourites. The challenge took place indoors, as the rain that fell in Messina in the morning made the outdoor courts impassable.
Only the match between the two number 1s of the day, namely Marco Trungelliti and Roberto Marcora, was more balanced with the Argentine Trungelliti ending it in his favor with a double 6-4, breaking his rival’s resistance . For the rest, the successes of the Frenchman Maxime Janvier on Conti and of the brothers Fausto and Giorgio Tabacco, respectively against Beraldo and Dadda, were easy. Doubles are irrelevant.
Next Sunday, on the last day of the regular season, another home match against Tc Parioli, last in the rankings. The championship playoffs will start immediately afterwards, which will see Coach Vela once again as the protagonist.
