The initiative “Caring for the Earth. Visual Narratives on Fragile Ecosystems – Custodire la Terra. Visual narratives on fragile ecosystems”, scheduled for next April 10th at 10 am at the “Corrado Alvaro” comprehensive institute in Conflenti, as part of the International “Night of Geography”, an event promoted by the geographical associations EUGEO and IGU, will be dedicated to the protection of fragile ecosystems and the active role of new generations.

The event, organized by the GeoRiskEcoLab research center of the eCampus University in collaboration with the Municipality of Conflenti, will involve students, teachers and institutions in an interdisciplinary journey between geography, civic education, arts and literature, with the aim of raising awareness of the relationship between human beings and the environment.

Students protagonists between art and territory

The protagonists will be the students, called to interpret the theme through artistic works – paintings, photographs, visual compositions and sculptures – dedicated to the territories and the different forms of environmental fragility. The works will be presented to the public in an exhibition itinerary with guided tours curated by the students themselves.

Interventions and reflections on ecosystems

The proceedings will be opened by institutional greetings from the municipal administration of Conflenti, from the school director Manuela Maletta and from the scientific director of GeoRiskEcoLab, Eleonora Guadagno. The teacher Antonella Audino will coordinate the meeting.

This will be followed by speeches by Francesco De Pascale, president of the GeoRiskEcoLab Scientific Committee, and Simone Cuconato of the University of Calabria, on the theme “Place and logos: the coherence of geographical thinking in the face of fragile ecosystems”.

«It is necessary to adopt a conscious and coherent approach in land management – underline De Pascale and Cuconato – it is not possible to consider the environment as a resource to be protected and, at the same time, exploit it without limits».

«This initiative – highlights Guadagno – represents a moment of geographical and civic education in which students become active protagonists in building a new environmental awareness».

The event represents an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between man and the environment through the gaze of the new generations, strengthening the dialogue between school, university and territory and promoting a culture of sustainability.
