«There is no doubt that my assessor Albino Mosciaroby sharing the post on “beer and women” for the sponsorship of the Beer Festival, has committed a serious mistake from which, as Mayor and as a woman, I distance myself together with the Executive and the City Council».
This is the clear and precise incipit of the mayor of Mendicino, Irma Buccarelliin response to the social controversy that has been mounting since yesterday regarding some phrases that certainly have a sexist flavour, but whose significance “is however instrumentally used only to attack me personally and the Administration that I represent”.
Bucarelli specifies that it was certainly an unwanted slip-up on the part of Councilor Mosciaro, who is known to all for the calmness of his actions, the respect towards women and men, the extraneousness of his thoughts to offensive stereotypes towards anyone: «The Councilor has already apologized publicly – added Irma Bucarelli – acknowledging the error, the result of an unsuccessful attempt at irony and which certainly turned out to be offensive, but not in an intentional and malicious way».
A malice that instead exploded from the usual detractors, who continue to rage via social media and even through the press despite the Councilor having declared himself sorry and asked for understanding, which for Bucarelli «has the flavor of a “convenient indignation”, which did not explode instead following the insults and defamations recently directed at me via social media by a former candidate of the opposing list, which went well beyond sexism and on which none of the voices that today cry scandal have been raised in defense of my honor as a woman and administrator».
That said and clarified, Bucarelli reconfirms his distancing from the incident, «which I firmly stigmatize, for which I will immediately revoke the patronage of the Municipality for the event in question».
