An unfortunate episode took place in recent days in a middle school in Corigliano Rossano amidst complaints on social media and questions about the current delicate moment that the youth world is experiencing. According to what was learned a couple of days ago, a seventh grade boy was attacked inside a comprehensive school in the urban area of Corigliano, during school hours, by one or perhaps more children, although the reconstruction of the serious episode is still being examined by the Carabinieri of the Corigliano Rossano Territorial Department who are investigating the incident and who in recent days have also received a complaint from the parents of the attacked minor.
The attack, according to what we learn, would have been quite violent, given that the boy would have been hit in the face several times, suffering, in particular, trauma to one eye. A situation that required his transfer to the “Annunziata” hospital in Cosenza to ensure that he received the necessary treatment.
The complaint then moved to social media which hosted an outburst from one of the parents, who also used harsh words against the school institution: «We send our children to school sure of where they are, but it’s just an illusion. An 11-year-old boy was kicked and punched in the face. The silence that surrounds us is even more frightening. That child is the son of everyone, of an entire community that has failed.”
A few days later, another post appeared on the same city blog in which people were invited to first get to know the facts well and then make judgments that could be hasty as the “aggressor” would in turn react to alleged provocations and insults.
Of course, the fact that reflections on such a serious episode are entrusted to social media and not to a discussion in the context of the educational community at all levels is also controversial.
In any case, as mentioned, the Carabinieri have already started the appropriate investigations to try to reconstruct the dynamics of the attack and also verify whether this is an isolated episode or whether it is instead a context in which bullying episodes are frequently recorded.
If this were the case, the spectrum of the investigation would be broadened to identify subjects who use aggressive and violent ways towards their peers, and also to eradicate any type of consequence which could lead, as unfortunately the news teaches us, to further deleterious repercussions for the most fragile subjects.
Whatever happens, the picture that emerges from all this is frankly disheartening, giving the image of a faded, empty world of youth, which continues to be filled with futility and false models, amidst shouting, shouting and violence. A world, unfortunately, that also “infects” schools, sometimes forced – if they are up to it – to replace an educational function that should be the responsibility, first and foremost, of families.
