«I believe it is mandatory to evaluate the creation of a new province in the vast territory of Sibaritide». He supports it with conviction the former mayor of Rossano, Joseph Antoniottiamong the main supporters of the birth of the city of Corigliano Rossano following the merger between Corigliano Calabro and Rossano, the two main municipalities of the Sibaritide which today has about 80 thousand inhabitants. But this is not the only motivation given by Antoniotti to justify the necessity and “the obligation”, as he himself defined it, the proposal to establish the province in this rich part of Calabria and the province of Cosenza. He underlines, in fact, that “the new City was also born in function of a hypothesis of provincial autonomy”. The former mayor of Rossano highlights that for him and all the others who in the past have worked “for the creation of the new province, today I believe it is appropriate to consider the issue seriously”. Not only does he highlight that he was the promoter of the merger “that during my term of office we unanimously decided”.

He adds that the new city was also wanted to create the hypothesis of provincial autonomy. We ask him what he thinks of the position taken by the Hon. Antoniozzi who did not share the idea of creating a province of Sibaritide by reducing the size of the province of Cosenza. Antoniotti has no doubts about the fact that there would be no attempt to reduce the size of the province of Cosenza, on the contrary it would be lightened and could aim for greater action towards the territories being too vast, giving the possibility to this territory to be able to manage itself administratively and to exploit the great potential for the presence of the Port, cultural heritage and a flourishing agriculture. He therefore believes that, «with the birth of the third city of Calabria, the conditions compared to decades ago have changed and I believe the time is ripe to separate from Cosenza, a province with 155 municipalities».
