The 81-year-old woman from Rossano did not make it, she was seriously injured due to the malfunction of the thermo fireplace inside her home. In fact, the woman died yesterday in the major burns center in Bari, where she had been urgently transferred by air ambulance following the severity of the burns suffered during the explosion. The serious domestic accident occurred on November 17th, in one of the houses in via San Michele, in the ancient San Biagio district, in the lower part of the urban layout of the historic center of Rossano.
The old woman, who lived with her son, was alone in the house at the time of the accident and was hit directly by a jet of boiling water coming out of a thermo fireplace pipe which practically exploded in her face. The woman’s screams of pain and also the noise of the explosion had attracted the attention of the neighbors who had immediately alerted the emergency services. The firefighters of the Rossano detachment had arrived at the site of the disaster, together with the personnel of the 118 emergency service.
