Corigliano-Rossano, Matassa reservoir dry: inconveniences at the airport, harsh attack by the mayor on Sorical

New water problems in Corigliano-Rossano. This morning, during the usual daily checks on tanks and systems, the workers of the Municipality’s Networks and Maintenance sector found the total absence of water supply to the “Matassa” tank, which serves part of the Rossano airport.

The fault on the Macrocioli pipeline

The Matassa reservoir is fed by the “Macrocioli” pipeline, owned by Sorical, which also supplies various districts south of the city, from Amica to Toscano up to Fossa. Following the detection, the Municipality immediately notified the Sorical managers, requesting urgent intervention on the Trionto plants and along the pipeline.

The administration is now waiting for official communications on when the problem will be resolved.

Inconveniences already before Christmas

This is not an isolated incident. The Macrocioli pipeline is in fact the same one which, already before Christmas, showed critical issues in terms of the quantity of water transported to the municipal tanks, causing continuous disruptions in various areas, from via De Florio to via Sibari, promptly reported by the authority.

Mayor Stasi’s outburst

Mayor Flavio Stasi’s comment was very harsh: «Let’s start the new year of this infamous conduct exactly as we ended it, that is, with a disaster», says the mayor.

«While the municipal employees have worked day and night to solve localized problems, holding operational briefings – like the one on San Nico, which I even personally attended on New Year’s Day – we then find ourselves helpless having to suffer the continuous failures of a supply pipeline that could not function even in wartime», he adds.

Stasi takes things up a notch: «It is absurd and unsustainable that, with a user of around 20 thousand people, we continue to use an old iron, a sieve that breaks on average once a week. I want to say this at the beginning of the year, in the first of what will be a long series of failures: the Macrocioli pipeline and its plants are a regional disgrace. For this reason, the entire Sorical management and the regional council must wake up from their blissful dreams and return to earth».

Tankers and new solutions

The mayor concludes by underlining the actions implemented by the Municipality: «We have already taken action for the tankers and have been working for some time to reduce the dependence on Sorical through the creation of new plants».

«It should be remembered – he adds – that water supply is the exclusive competence of Sorical, while distribution should be the sole competence of the Municipalities».

Meanwhile, the municipal administration continues to monitor the situation while waiting for a decisive intervention on the Macrocioli pipeline, while citizens remain grappling with yet another water emergency.
