The trial of one of the two alleged killers, a minor at the time, accused of the murder of Pasquale Aquino, the 57-year-old killed in a mafia-style ambush in Schiavonea di Corigliano-Rossano, while he was returning home, has officially begun. The proceedings against the young man, of Romanian nationality, who are being held before juvenile justice, aim to shed definitive light on the perpetrators and dynamics of a crime which in May 2022 marked the beginning of a bloody feud in the area. An ambush committed in the heart of the seaside village of Schiavonea which bore with it the unequivocal signature of the crime’s modus operandi. The murder of Pasquale Aquino took place on the evening of May 3, 2022, a few steps from the victim’s home, in the seaside village of Schiavonea. The man was hit by several gunshots which left him no escape. From the very beginning, the brutality of the crime and the methods of execution pushed the investigators of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) of Catanzaro to frame the bloody crime in the dynamics of redefining the internal balance of organized crime in the Sibaritide.
