The show “The Five Doors – A literary journey on the audacity to choose” took place in the evocative setting of the Ducal Castle of Corigliano, the final moment of the project “Symphony of Wellbeing: from listening to oneself to meeting the other”, financed by the Ministry of Education and Merit and by the Regional School Office of Calabria as part of the Arts Plan.

The initiative, born from a network agreement between local educational institutions, had the objective of promoting the social and relational well-being of students through the integration of the universal languages of music, poetry and visual arts.

The network between schools and conservatories

The leading school of the project was the “Don Bosco-V. Tieri” comprehensive institute, directed by the school director Laura Sisca, in network with the “Palma Green-Falcone e Borsellino” higher education institute, led by the director Cinzia D’Amico, and with the high schools of Corigliano, directed by the school director Edoardo Giovanni De Simone.

The contribution of the reality of high artistic education is also decisive. The project in fact made use of the collaboration of the “Paisiello” State Conservatory of Music of Taranto and the “Tchaikovsky” State Conservatory of Music of Nocera Terinese, which made specialized trainers and expert musicians available, offering students authentic and highly motivating training experiences.

The initiative involved pupils and students of all school levels, from nursery to secondary school, in a vertical and inclusive path based on creativity, collaboration, conscious orientation and the valorisation of skills.

The project included four workshops: listening, voice and rhythm for childhood and primary school; choir and orchestra for lower and upper secondary schools, entrusted to the lead school; creative writing and poetic declamation for all school levels, entrusted to high schools; scenography and visual arts, created by the IIS “Palma Green-Falcone e Borsellino”.

David’s journey through the “Five Gates”

The event attracted numerous spectators who filled the outdoor spaces of the Ducal Castle, allowing themselves to be involved in an intense and exciting representation.

“The Five Doors” starts from a reflection on the human being, described as a complex mosaic composed of five dimensions in continuous dialogue with each other: the body, emotions, relationships, the mind and values. Dimensions that often come into conflict and seek balance every time we find ourselves faced with an important choice.

At the center of the narrative is the journey of Davide, a modern-day boy called to face the difficulties of life and his own internal doubts, transforming obstacles and fears into opportunities for growth. Accompanying him along the way were the great authors of Italian literature, reinterpreted by the students with maturity and sensitivity: from Giovanni Verga to Alessandro Manzoni, up to Luigi Pirandello.

The show represented not only the conclusion of a significant educational journey, but also a concrete testimony of how collaboration between schools, institutions and artistic realities can generate cultural experiences of great human and social value.
