Among the areas that recorded the most serious damage during the intense rains of recent weeks there is also Macchia della Tavola-Jassa, an area close to the historic center where the flood of the river eroded the connecting road, making it impassable.
After the flood, some families were evacuated as a precaution and rescued with the help of a fire brigade helicopter. The families were then placed in hotels or hosted by relatives and friends, waiting for security conditions to be restored.
Residents’ request
The Municipality was building an artery not far from the watercourse, but adverse weather conditions interrupted the work. Days after the wave of bad weather, however, families are wondering how much time will still have to pass before they can return to their homes.
Yesterday morning the residents reiterated their request during a press conference organized right near the collapsed road, urging the municipal administration to find solutions to escape the isolation.
The inhabitants of Macchia della Tavola would like to return to their homes and loved ones, but the situation still remains precarious. The exceptional wave of bad weather in recent weeks has in fact caused critical issues in various areas of the territory, from Sibaritide to Corigliano Rossano, with the Cosenza Tyrrhenian Sea put to the test by the sea waves and inconveniences also in the Bruzio capital.

“Clear and concrete answers”
The displaced families are asking for “true, clear and concrete answers” from the institutions. In the area the houses remained empty while very little remained of the road that allowed them to be reached.
The residents, including families with children, elderly people and a person with disabilities, fear they have been forgotten and ask for urgent interventions, even temporary, such as the creation of an alternative route that allows them to reach the homes “built – they underlined – with the sacrifices of our grandparents and our parents”.
The appeal also concerns the constant cleaning of the river banks and the resumption of work to resurface the road.
Not just Macchia della Tavola. The heavy rains have in fact left marks in various areas of the city, where landslides and mudslides have created traffic problems. On Lungo Crati, for example, a vast chasm opened up in the asphalt.
