A variable support excavator, the so-called ‘spider’, equipped with a drilling machine, is in action as part of the works to secure the Strada Statale 18 Tirrena Inferiore from the risk of falling rocks in the Bagnara Calabra area, in the Province of Reggio Calabria.
The special vehicle is used to operate on the steepest and most difficult to reach slopes: thanks to its adjustable “legs” it is able to move and stabilize even on very inclined slopes. The drilling machine allows you to make holes in the rock necessary for the installation of anchors, tie rods and protection systems, essential for the consolidation of the slope and the installation of cortical nets and rockfall protection to prevent rockfall phenomena.
The interventions are proceeding at full speed and without critical issues.
Anas is committed at all levels to allow the reopening to traffic, alternating one-way, and subsequently to the entire section, in the shortest possible time.
