The great refusal. Fernando Caldiero, a renowned accountant, responsible in recent years for the most thorny events that have affected the economic-productive fabric of the Cosentino area, has declined the invitation to chair the Municipality’s Board of Auditors.
A choice not motivated by political reasons or dissent towards municipal institutions but dictated by “matters of opportunity”. Caldiero is the bankruptcy trustee of Amaco – the public transport company that went bankrupt after years of crisis – and does not intend to take on roles that in any case concern the local authority. There is no incompatibility restriction on paper but the accountant decided not to accept the important role anyway for reasons of common sense. If we looked at the history of the Roman world, the brocard concerning “Caesar’s wife” would come to mind. The Amaco affair is so delicate and complex that Caldiero wants to keep his hands free and avoid insinuations and controversies.
The bankruptcy trustee – in agreement with the judge in charge of the company’s bankruptcy, Marzia Maffei – sent notice letters to 108 employees, effectively starting the collective dismissal procedure. A procedure that will be fully implemented by September. At the same time he asked the Region to open an institutional table with the Transport Department and the Cometra consortium. The discussion at the Citadel will serve to identify possible solutions in order to maintain the efficient connection and transport service guaranteed by Amaco for decades and, at the same time, save the jobs currently cancelled. Caldiero would have already met the employees informally, making them aware of the phases initiated. In the meantime, the sale of company assets has begun to obtain liquidity for the benefit of the many creditors on the waiting list.
