First weekend back from vacation and first wave of counter-exodus on the Strait. In Messina, on Viale della Libertà, the road that leads to the private ferry docks, queues of cars and other vehicles departing from Sicily have formed. The long line that leads to the ferries is full, the wait to board is over an hour.

There are eight private ferry boats in operation and four more from the Railways. The municipal police with several patrols guards all the intersections with Viale della Libertà, in particular the one with Viale Giostra and Viale Boccetta. The Municipality and Prefecture have already planned a plan since last year to make traffic more fluid and avoid that the city traffic mixes with that of the returning holidaymakers. Traffic is heavy, but flowing also on the highway with some queues at the toll booths, on the Messina Catania there are queues of about 3 kilometers at the toll booths exiting towards Messina.

On the A2 “Autostrada del Mediterraneo” there are slowdowns in the northbound direction between the Torano Castello and Tarsia junctions, corresponding to a narrowing of the carriageway of approximately 200 metres near kilometer 230, which could not be removed by order of the Judicial Authority. Transit is permitted in the overtaking lane. In order to avoid traffic blocks, the Anas staff present on site also activated the alternative route on the provincial road parallel to the highway, with exit at Torano Castello and return to Tarsia Sud.
