A lot of new data has emerged, many elements to study and explore in greater depth, in the latest excavation campaign conducted in the sanctuary of Hera Lacina in Capo Colonna. All elements intended to provide precious information on the sacred area of the promontory, on the buildings that made it up, on its evolution over the centuries. All elements that the director of the archaeological parks of Crotone and Sibari, Filippo Demma, and the professor of the Southern High School of Naples, Carlo Rescigno, illustrated to the many dozens of people who came for the open day “Inside the excavations”.
«There are two excavations – explained Demma – and they are the continuation of an intervention that we began last year with the Southern High School in the southernmost area of the sanctuary. On that occasion we had discovered a small cult enclosure with a small altar; this year, expanding the excavation, we found traces of ritual activity therefore, once the materials have been studied, it will be possible to reconstruct the type of rites and cults that took place around the altar.”
