The former regional councilor Vincenzo Sculco is released, who since June 2023 had been subjected to precautionary home detention as part of the Catanzaro DDA investigation called ‘Glicine-Acherontè’ as he was considered the dominus of a political business committee capable of influencing the local public administration, from the Municipality to the ASP, from the Province to Aterp. Committee of which prominent Calabrian political exponents such as the former president of the Region Mario Oliverio or the former vice president Nicola Adamo would have been members. For this reason, the anti-mafia prosecutor’s office accuses Sculco of charges of criminal association, corruption, mafia political exchange votes, accusations which converged in the trial which began in October 2024 before the Court of Crotone against around a hundred defendants.
The judges of the college (D’Ambrosio president, Daminelli and Crisci on the sidelines), accepting the request of Sculco’s defender, the lawyer Mario Nigro, today revoked the precautionary measure since “the time elapsed and Sculco’s correct procedural behavior allow the state to consider the risk of reoffending eliminated”. Furthermore, the Court took note of the opinion of the public prosecutor who “considered that the precautionary needs had ceased”. Among the prominent political figures, public administrators and entrepreneurs currently on trial before the Crotone judges, Sculco was the only one still under precautionary custody after more than three years.
Previously, the requests to revoke the measure had all been rejected, so much so that the Crotone politician had recently asked the judges to be placed in prison rather than under house arrest so as not to continue to weigh on the lives of his family members. The request was rejected by the criminal panel which nevertheless took note of the “extension of procedural times due to the failure to fully file the report on the wiretaps” so much so that the judges themselves had to grant yet another postponement to the experts to complete the transcriptions. An enormous amount of collections which for the DDA would prove the existence of the political business affairs committee to which some clans in the Crotone area were not unrelated.
