As part of the territorial control and administrative supervision activities aimed at the prevention and repression of crimes relating to weapons and the protection of the environment, the Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Cirò Marina Company, with the support of the Vibo Valentia Dog Unit, carried out a targeted judicial police operation in the municipality of Crucoli.

During the activity, the military carried out a search of land used by a local citizen with a police record. According to what was reported by the investigators, the man immediately displayed a hostile attitude, attempting to hinder the checks and physically attacking the operating staff. The police managed to immobilize him without consequences.

A rifle and numerous ammunition were seized

The inspection of the area, extended to the entire agricultural land thanks to the help of the dog unit, made it possible to find a 12 gauge rifle, not registered in the joint force database and considered to be of dubious origin, as well as a significant quantity of ammunition of the same caliber, some of which were handcrafted.

The weapon and ammunition were subjected to criminal seizure to allow subsequent ballistic tests.

Municipal land transformed into landfill

The administrative and state-owned investigations also made it possible to verify that the land, owned by the Municipality of Crucoli, was illegally occupied and used as a landfill for special dangerous waste. Materials such as asbestos, tires and household appliances were found in the area.

The entire site was placed under evidential seizure and entrusted to the mayor of the municipality.

The arrest was confirmed

The man was arrested on charges of resisting a public official, possession of an illegal weapon and receiving stolen goods. He was also reported while at liberty for invasion of public lands and illegal waste management.

After the formalities he was placed under house arrest. On May 30, the judicial authority validated the restrictive measure by imposing on him the precautionary measure of the obligation to report daily to the judicial police.

The investigations are coordinated by the Crotone Public Prosecutor’s Office, directed by the prosecutor Domenico Guarascio.
