Cultural tourism in Calabria… on paper: when heritage is “closed”

Sun and mild temperatures have not yet taken full possession of the Calabrian days; However, the tourist season that looks at the important cultural containers of our region began more than a month ago but already presents strong structural problems. The damage caused by the cyclones has made some extraordinary sites inaccessible, such as the Sibari archaeological park. An announcement a few days ago on the official page of the site explained: «Maintenance interventions continue in the archaeological area of ​​Parco del Cavallo. The site will therefore remain closed on Easter and Easter Monday. We will keep you updated on the reopening.” The Cattolica di Stilo was also closed without any official clarification: the renovation works affecting the structure should have been completed in October 2025. Emblematic examples because they are linked to two of the most important sites in Calabria, which alone – together with the Riace Bronzes – characterize a good part of the regional cultural offering.
