Jannik Sinner, not Matteo Berrettini, is among Filippo Volandri’s players called up for the Davis Cup Final 8 in Malaga scheduled from 19 to 24 November. The Italian captain has released the list of players called up, which are Simone Bolelli, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Musetti, Jannik Sinner and Andrea Vavassori.

The Azzurri – reigning champions – earned a place in the November finals by finishing first in Group A, which took place in Bologna last week, ahead of Holland (who nevertheless qualified for Malaga), Brazil and Belgium.

The first match of the Italian national team will be against Argentina in the quarterfinals. “This year we will return to Malaga with the aim of honouring, as always, the Italian national team and giving our all for our country – said Volandri – I would like to underline that these pre-calls are based on the current ranking. From now until November I will gather all the elements that will allow me to make the final call-ups, based on the physical and mental condition of our players”.

“The team is made up of important players, all of them at the highest level, on whom I know I can count – added the Italian captain – We are all working to be ready for the appointment with the Final 8. In the quarterfinals we will have to face Argentina, an important team: Guillermo Coria has at his disposal singles players of absolute value like Cerundolo, Etcheverry, Baez and a quality doubles team like the one made up of Molteni and Gonzalez. We, however, have a strong team, made up of exceptional guys who form a group that finds its strength precisely in cohesion. I can therefore only look with optimism to November and to the future of the Davis Cup”.
