“Forza Italia’s was a sensational defeat, orchestrated by crows and puppeteers, a carefully planned maneuver”. Alessandro De Leo, regional Forzista deputy, does not mince words, remaining out of the city council despite having well exceeded one thousand votes. His words sound like a farewell announcement, even if the parliamentarian clarifies that “in the next few hours we will decide what to do, there will be a way to address this issue in other places, but we are making serious reflections”. According to De Leo, “Forza Italia has failed with an unprecedented defeat from 1994 to today, in all the administrative elections that have taken place in Italy. This list was composed through guarantors, deputies and those who hold sub-government positions. There are candidates with 4, 6, 8, 9, 16, 20 votes. We got 3.4% and we contributed 40% to this result. The party was totally absent, in our symbol it says Scurria mayor because there had to be a single list, which would have arrived first given the numbers, then various maneuvers began, we also had to give up a constituency presidency. It is unacceptable to read that the mayor’s list is the second Forza Italia list, that is a list that was born from a civic movement and would I have acted as a stopgap for the others? they were needed… I said that Barbera’s resignation was a necessary act, and I also declared that Scurria was not up to the task, because the numbers say so, he took less than the 2022 candidate, who ran without the League. I also respond to some puppets of the day after – continues De Leo – who say that he will represent Forza Italia. Here someone wants to get their hands on the party, starting from the city coordination. The future? It could also be elsewhere, but it would not be “neither opportunism nor a change of shirt, today I defend my dignity”. And on Cateno De Luca who yesterday expressed solidarity with him, De Leo says: “It is surreal that we receive solidarity from De Luca and not from the centre-right parties. I have not received any phone calls from regional or national exponents of Forza Italia.
I read De Luca’s words as the words of someone who knows politics and the system and arrives at a very clear conclusion, and has great human respect towards those who have worked hard.”
