Seven out of 10 fish that consumers find in fish shops come from other seas and not from those around Sicily. At least half of the fishing fleet of the Aeolian Islands, where swordfish, tuna and albacore once represented a strong point of the islands’ activity and economy, has been decommissioned and scrapped and the one left in the water is in serious crisis dealing with expensive fuel and lack of adequate storage spaces. Spotlight on Lipari on fishing problems.

In the conference organized by the Municipality, which saw the support of the Sicilian Region and the organizational supervision of Alda Plus Benefit, significant data emerged.
The fishermen’s representatives raised the cry of alarm, from the regional president of Fedagripesca Sicilia Nino Accept to the president of the small Aeolian fishing cooperative Giuseppe Spinella. Index pointed against the biological closures of tuna fishing which not only prevent the Aeolians from harvesting tuna but cause a proliferation of that type of fish which ends up damaging other species. Inforamtico Matteo Salin presented an application on fishing and sustainable taste in the Aeolian Islands which becomes a compass for travelers between fish and Aeolian recipes.
Present among others were the mayor Riccardo Gullo who invited the fishermen to trace a common path and Don Bruno Bignami director of the apostolate of the Sea office.
