“Calabria wants to recover a 30-year delay in the digital sector, creating a real system capable of responding to the new challenges of innovation, digital transition, artificial intelligence, research, training of specialized professional figures required by the market. The new digital company of the Calabria Region will have to organize for the first time and manage the governance of this digital system that will look at the sectors of public administration, businesses and citizens”.
This is what the vice president of the Calabria Region explained, Philip Peter Paulwhich has responsibility for the digital transition, meeting in Catanzaro with representatives of Unindustria Calabria, led by Aldo Ferraraand the ICT and business services sectors of the association.
“In the proposed law establishing the Redigit company, which will have to be approved by the Regional Council – Pietropaolo added – a perimeter is defined, the Siir (Regional Integrated Information System), which has the objective of systematizing all the information systems of the Region, of the participating companies and of all regional healthcare. We also aim to strengthen the Region’s capacity for programming and evaluating projects in the digital sector, increasing existing skills, and consequently improving the management of relationships with national and local supplier companies. One of the tasks of the new company will be to maximize the skills of local companies, promoting network initiatives and the development of relationships between the Region, in-house companies and national and international companies”.
“In designing the new company, in a year of work, we have tried to take advantage of the positive experiences achieved by other regions, with which there has been an in-depth discussion also in the Commission for Technological Innovation and Digitalization of the Conference of Regions, of which I am a member. The most important idea – said Pietropaolo – is to create a digital Academy. We have already started a discussion with many important Italian companies to support, with investments and incentives, the opening of development laboratories and competence centers in Calabria. The goal is to identify the digital profiles that companies need, train them with short courses and have them do internships. These young people, who do not necessarily have to be graduates, will be trained with specific skills, will have a specialization, will obtain a certification. At the end of the training these young people will probably be hired by the same companies, but they will also be able to use their skills elsewhere or start new start-ups, which can also be supported with specific initiatives of the Region”.
“The new digital society expresses a vision of the digital transition that is completely new for Calabria – concluded Pietropaolo -, we want to create a virtuous system that is capable of dialoguing and sharing initiatives with other regions and ministries, of relating to universities to carry out research projects, but also of approaching local communities, using the digital facilitation points created throughout Calabria that can represent antennas on the territory, intercepting the needs of citizens and local authorities, but also the initiatives and innovative ideas of young people interested in a professional future in the digital field, to be supported also through the Academy”.
