The episcopal seminary of the diocese of Mileto-Nicotera-Tropea has a new rector. Bishop Attilio Nostro’s choice fell on Don Francesco Colaci – current deputy parish priest of the church of the Resurrection of Jesus in Pizzo – who takes the place of Don Agostino Pugliese who led the seminar, dedicated to the late historic rector “Don Rocco Iaria”, in the last five years.
At the same time, Don Francesco Colaci was also appointed by the same prelate as responsible for the diocesan office for vocations of the Mileto Curia. The new rector, 33 years old, originally from the Favelloni hamlet of Cessaniti, was ordained a priest on 15 April 2023 by the same bishop Monsignor Attilio Nostro in the Cathedral Basilica of the Norman town. He completed his studies as a priest at the Pontifical Major Seminary “San Pio The prelate, in announcing to the priests and deacons of the diocesan Church the appointment of the new rector of the seminary, thanked the outgoing Don Agostino Pugliese “for the work done” in all these years.
Over the years, the Episcopal Seminary of Mileto has been a place of growth for many generations of priests not only from the Vibo area but also from the nearby Piana di Gioia Tauro. Lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs, politicians and journalists were also trained in the classrooms of the important Mileto religious institution before embarking on other paths, some of whom are still fully active today and who – as happened a few years ago during a gathering of former students promoted by Don Francesco Sicari – never miss an opportunity to remember the important years spent in the Norman town.
