“There is an extremely critical situation in these hours in the emergency room of Cosenza, where 13 ambulances are stopped, of which 7 in red code. This is because the patients are taken care of and left on the ambulance stretchers, without which the emergency vehicle cannot move. It is necessary to guarantee everyone’s right to health, which is enshrined in our Constitutional charter” states mayor Franz Caruso, also and above all in his capacity as responsible for the health of citizens who continues: “We have become aware of the alarming situation and we are deeply concerned because the doctors and 118 operators no longer know what to do to carry out their duties and to guarantee timely interventions to protect the health of citizens. The already alarming circumstance is made even worse by 5 other requests for rescue interventions in Cosenza for which ambulances have been activated from the province, i.e. from Fuscaldo, Castrovillari, San Giovanni in Fiore, San Marco Argentano and San Demetrio Corone. This means that rescue times are lengthened in a completely unacceptable manner. This is a dramatic situation that can no longer be tolerated and for which I raise my cry of protest loudly, asking all the other fellow Mayors to create a critical mass to try to resolve a condition of high risk for the health of our citizens and which subjects medical, nursing and paramedical staff to serious stress and inability to operate as it should”.
